The Thai can be broken down into various regional groups including the main Thai, northeastern, northern, and southern Thai with their own regional dialects of their mutually intelligible Thai language. |

The Karen belong to the Sino-Tibetan linguistic family. They are found along most of the length of the Thai Burmese border. Their population is about 350,000 in Thailand, with over four million in Burma. | ||||

The Kayan Lahwi tribe are the most renowned as they wear ornaments known as neck rings, brass coils that are placed around the neck. These coils are first applied to young girls when they are around five years old. |

The Lisu are known for their colorful dress. They originated in Eastern Tibet but came from Yunnan in China about 100 years ago. The Lisu tribe is made up of several clans and each clan has its own name or surname. | ||||
