In case you are looking for something different than a hotel to stay overnight, what about an overnight stay in an authentic tulou in southern Fujian province, near Xiamen? A tulou is a round structure constructed by the Hakka people and made of rammed earth. Designed for defendable purposes, it has only one reinforced entrance and housed up to 600 people in better times.
Accommodation in a tulou is rather basic but better alternatives in the area are available as well.
