Days 1 to 3 - Vientiane
Stay at the Pavillion

Arrive in the capital and check in to your hotel. Over the next two days enjoy sightseeing trips to see the major attractions of Phnom Penh. Start of with Wat Phnom, a popular gathering place for the locals, followed by visits to the National Museum, Wat Onaloum, the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda and the Central Market. Also visit the Tuong Sleng Museum and visit the 'killing fields' at Choeung Ek. Spend any free time exploring the markets and shops of Phnom Penh or relax at a roadside cafe. |
Day 3 to 4 - Kratie
Stay at the Oudom Sambath Hotel

After breakfast set out by car towards Kratie via Kampong Cham, a less visited town with plenty of colonial charm. Visit the hills of Phnom Pros and Phnom Srey West of the city before a visit to a local rubber plantation and a market. Continue your drive to Kratie and check in to the hotel. Kratie is a tiny provincial town and can easily be explored on foot. The rest of the day is at leisure to venture out and observe life in this small Cambodian town. |
Day 4 to 5 - Kampong Cham
Stay at the Mittapheap Hotel

In the morning enjoy a boat excursion on the Meking River to spot the endangered freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins. As there are probably less than 100 or so dolphins left, you may only see them from a distance, though there are sometimes large groups of them frolicking. Also visit Wat Phnom Sambok before returning to Kampong Cham. The rest of the day is at leisure. |
Day 5 to 6 - Kampong Thom
Stay at the Kampong Thom Village Hotel

Continue by car from Kampong Cham to Kampong Thom. Even though the town is of little interest the area is known for its temple complex. The area also offers a glimpse of everyday life in the Cambodian countryside with many fishermen, ox-carts and small scale farmers. Enjoy a visit to the Sambor Prei Kuk and Phnom Santuk temple complexes. The rest of the day is at leisure. |
Days 6 to 9 - Siem Reap
Stay at La Residence d'Angkor

Drive across the Tonle Sap basin to Siem Reap. The town itself is pleasant and is the entry point for the Angkor Archeological Park. Spend the next two days exploring the famous and magnificent Angkor temples, including Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Phrom. Also see the beautiful Bantaey Sri and Phnom Kulen temples. Enjoy the views of the temples at sunset from the upper terraces of a temple. Further sightseeing includes a boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake and a visit to Kbal Spean to see the bedrock carvings.

Days 9 to 14 - Sihanoukville
Stay at the Sokha Beach Resort

Fly from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and transfer by car to Sihanoukville. (alternatively a private helicopter service operates between Sihanoukville and Siem Reap/Phnom Penh). Sihanoukville is Cambodia's only beach resort area and offers several attractive beaches. Diving is a popular activity here, in particular around the islands off the coast where divers can see tropical fish species and corals. Spend several days at leisure to relax and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere before returning to Phnom Penh for your onward travel. There are flights to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
